Two centuries ago, the vampires arrived on the island of Kyrondor, deposing reigning Lord Vanzylf and styling themselves masters of Grymark. Under their rule, the humans of Grymark were oppressed, captured or culled according to their whims. Some escaped beyond the cities, seeking refuge in the wilderness. Many were found, either by vampires or the werewolves employed to hunt them. Yet some among the werewolves understood they would eventually be next and refused cooperation with the vampires, harboring any remaining humans they encountered.

Despite this, the vampires strengthened their hold over Grymark and Kyrondor, enjoying continued dominance for two hundred years. Recently, however, this has been shaken by an unexpected emergence: the mysterious plague known only as the "Redcurse", transmitted by blood and responsible for the creation of beasts. All who contract it slowly begin to change, stripped of their sanity and reshaped into grotesque monsters who hunger for flesh.

With this development, tensions within Grymark have reached an all-time high. Paranoia runs rampant through the streets as the vampires scramble in search of a cure. Meanwhile, humans and werewolves can do naught but pray, hoping they do not find themselves among the afflicted. Faced with this nightmarish landscape, what path will you forge?
